Team Canada Names Quartet of Captains for FIL Championship

DENVER, COLORADO, July 10, 2014 - It's game day for Team Canada at the 2014 FIL World Championship and, as the team steps onto the practice field for one final shoot-around before their big opening game against Team USA, head coach Randy Mearns announced the selection of captains.

Team Canada veteran defensemen Brodie Merrill and Matt Vinc, Canada's faceoff specialist and 2006 World MVP forward Geoff Snider, and three-time Team Canada midfielder Jordan Hall have been named captains of Canada's team for the 2014 FIL World Field Lacrosse Championship.

All four have donned the 'Red and White' in the previous two world championships, including in 2006 when on Canadian soil, they contributed to Canada's last world title.

"These four players will undoubtedly be at the forefront of our efforts during the worlds but we are confident in our entire roster and their ability to collectively work together allowing our team to be successful," said Dave Huntley, CLA's National Team Director - Men's Field.

"Brodie, Matt, Geoff and Jordan are true leaders on and off the field. They have all been leaders on the international stage, as well as with their professional teams, so this is not an uncommon role to any of them and we are honoured to have them step into the role now for Team Canada."

Team Canada starts their quest for gold at 7:00 pm MST tonight and continues round-robin play Saturday July 12 against England.
