Michael Bryant Takes Lacrosse Reins at Mount Saint Vincent

Riverdale, N.Y. College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics and Recreation John 'Jay' Butler has announced the hiring of Michael Bryant to the position of head men's lacrosse coach. Bryant will be the third head coach in the program's history and comes to Riverdale after a four-year playing career at Cortland and a six-year coaching stint at South Side High School.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the College of Mount Saint Vincent family. I am impressed with the school's commitment to academic and athletic excellence," said Bryant. "CMSV is ready to start making a move to the top of the Skyline Conference and I am very excited to be given the opportunity to work with the student-athletes to achieve this goal, and bring success to the future of the program."

Bryant brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Mount after competing for four years at Cortland and serving as a team captain in 2004. While with the Red Dragons, Bryant earned the Red Letter Award and the Professor Holloway Award. The Red Letter honor is the highest at Cortland and is given to the student-athlete in each sport to who distinguishes themselves as the most valuable asset both on and off the field. The Professor Holloway honor is reserved for those who show character and leadership selected by the Physical Education staff.

"The College of Mount Saint Vincent has found a diamond in the rough," said Butler. "Coach Bryant is exactly who we need to lead the men's lacrosse program into the future. He has a great understanding of the NCAA Division III philosophy and he played at one of the best programs in the country. He is a consummate professional who will be a great role model both on and off the field for our young men. I am looking forward to Coach Bryant leading the Dolphins in his first game on our new field this coming spring."

After his playing days, Bryant moved into the coaching field, starting with the head varsity boy's lacrosse position at St. Joseph's Collegiate Academy in Buffalo, N.Y. In 2008, Bryant moved on to coach varsity boy's lacrosse and football at Southside High School in Rockville Centre, N.Y. and landed a position coaching the Long Island Outlaws elite lacrosse team in 2012.

Over the course of his coaching career, Bryant has also mentored the wrestling program at Eldred Central High School, the soccer program at Oyster Bay High School and has been the junior varsity lacrosse coach at Hastings High School and the assistant wrestling coach at Carle Place High School.

Bryant has been teaching 11th and 12th grade Physical Education and Health at Nassau Boces since 2006. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Cortland in 2005 and earned his Master of Science in Education from Cortland in 2010.

He currently resides in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.
