Vermont Adds Katie Ferris to the Lacrosse Coaching Staff

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Katie Ferris has been named an assistant coach for the University of Vermont women's lacrosse program. Head coach Jen Johnson made the announcement Friday.

"We are extremely excited to have Katie join our coaching staff. I am confident the skills she displayed during her playing career at UMass and her passion for the sport will positively impact our student-athletes," commented Johnson.

Ferris joins the Vermont staff following a standout playing career at Massachusetts, in which she tallied 330 points, 211 goals and 119 assists during her tenure with the Minutewomen. She finished her career as the program's all-time leader in points, goals and assists, and holds the team records for most points and assists in a single-season.

Ferris helped lead her team to the Atlantic 10 Championship title in all four years with the program, as the Minutewomen went a perfect 28-0 in conference play during that time. The team made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 in each of Ferris' seasons, including a first round victory in 2013.

In her first season at UMass, Ferris was named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team and Rookie All-America Team. She also collected Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors, and was selected to the A-10 All-Conference First Team, All-Rookie Team and All-Tournament Team.

Ferris followed that up with selections to the All-America Team, IWLCA All-America Third Team and Third Team in both her sophomore and junior seasons. She rounded out the 2013 season by earning the conference's top honor, Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year. In her final season with UMass, Ferris was named a Second Team All-American and the A-10 Tournament MVP.

Ferris has been an instructor at both Amonte Sports & Woman's Lax and Relentless Lacrosse for the past four years. She was also a club coach for two years with the Star Riders in Syracuse, where she taught fundamental skills of lacrosse and organized practices.

A native of Carthage, New York, Ferris graduated from Massachusetts this past May with a degree in sociology.
