Rochester's John Galloway Named MLL Goalkeeper of the Year

BOSTON (August 15, 2104) - Major League Lacrosse announced today that Rochester Rattlers goalkeeper John Galloway has been named 2014 Warrior Goalkeeper of the Year, as voted by MLL coaches and general managers.

The four-season veteran goalkeeper for Rochester earned 11 first-place votes, making Galloway the obvious choice for the Warrior Goalkeeper of the Year title. Behind Galloway, Denver's Jesse Schwartzman finished in second, followed in third by New York's Drew Adams, both with two first-place votes.

"This is definitely an unexpected honor considering all the excellent goalies we compete against every week," Galloway said. "Individual accolades are great but it's been a team effort and it's all about getting Rochester back in the playoffs."

A starter in all 14 games for the Rattlers, Galloway led Rochester to a 10-4 record. The veteran finished the 2014 regular season with his best stats to date; he had an impressive and career-best 11.16 goals against average, he also recorded 194 saves, helping the Rattlers reach the playoffs for the first time since 2008. These numbers ranked Galloway first amongst all the MLL goalies.

"The defense and I came together as a unit especially thanks to coach Jacques Monte. Having players like Connor Lade, Will Koshansky, Joel White and Michael Manley in front of me makes my life a lot easier week in and week out," said Galloway.

Galloway was an integral part of the Rattlers' success this season, he has exempliefied the core values of the team both on and off the field and has been an invaluable help to 2014 Brine Coach of the Year Tim Soudan each week.

"Galloway has played like a superstar almost the whole season," Soudan said. "He is a great leader who also helps us with game planning. He has the innate ability to stay mentally prepared throughout the whole game and his award is well deserved."

John Galloway will be back in net for the Rochester Rattlers in the first semifinal game of the 2014 MLL season on Saturday, August 16, at 3:00 p.m. ET at Wegman's Stadium in Rochester.
