#4 Georgetown Blitzes Monmouth, 18-2, in NCAAs

West Long Branch, N.J. The No. 3 seeded Georgetown University women's lacrosse team raced out to a 5-0 lead through the first 15 minutes of action and never looked back in an 18-2 NCAA Tournament First Round victory over Monmouth on Sunday afternoon. Georgetown, who has won eight straight First Round games, improves to 14-3 on the season and will face No. 6 Notre Dame on Saturday, May 20. The Hoyas tallied season-highs with 18 goals and 11 assists.

Georgetown Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) tallied a game-high five goals and two assists and won eight draw controls. Senior Paige Andrews (Newtown Square, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) scored all three of her goals in the first half while junior attacker Sara Zorzi ((Timonium, Md./Roland Park Country School) matched a career-high with five assists.

Schuyler Sutton (Annapolis, Md./Severn School), Lucy Poole (Lutherville, Md./Towson) and freshman Megan Bloomer (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) all tallied two goals.

Junior goaltender Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) made eight saves while senior Stephanie Zodtner (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) scooped a career-high eight ground balls.

Georgetown controlled the action in the opening period half winning 11 of the first half's 12 draw controls and took an 11-0 lead into halftime. Stanwick tallied four first half goals while Andrews collected three markers before the break. Zorzi handed out four assists in the first 30 minutes.

GU outshot Mon 15-4 through the first 20 minutes. Stanwick scored an unassisted goal at 28:58 after winning the opening draw for a 1-0 GU lead. Stanwick tallied her second goal a minute and a half later after Zorzi dished her first at 27:04.

GU made it 3-0 as freshman Bridget Noon (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) made a nice move from the left of the cage at 22:52 and slid it past the Hawk goalkeeper.

Sutton scored an unassisted goal at 16:54 for a 4-0 Hoya edge before Lucy Poole converted on a free position goal to make it 5-0 with 15 minutes left in the first.

Stanwick took an assist from Zorzi at 12:47 for a 6-0 Georgetown lead before Andrews tallied the game's next three goals over a four minute span.

Stephanie Zodtner (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) got into the box score with a goal at 8:09 ahead of Stanwick's free position goal with 5:37 that closed out the first half scoring.

Georgetown (13-3) is making their ninth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and snapped Monmouth's nation- leading, 11-game winning streak.

Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside), Margot Ellis (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and Bridget Noon (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) all scored goals for the Hoyas.

The Georgetown defense yielded just ten MU shots on goal.
