#1 Salisbury Edges #3 Roanoke, 13-12 in Overtime

SALISBURY, Md. * Senior midfielder Jimmy Creighton (Huntington, NY/Huntington) scored two minutes into the overtime period to lead the Sea Gulls to an exciting victory in overtime, 13-12, over the No. 3-ranked Maroons of Roanoke College. With the win, Salisbury advances to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Finals against Cortland State on Sunday, May 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Salisbury opened the scoring in the first, scoring two goals in the final two minutes of the quarter. Salisbury sophomore midfielder Brett Yoder (Parkton, MD/Hereford) opened the scoring, taking the feed from freshman midfielder Kylor Berkman (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) for his thirteenth goal of the season. Salisbury jumped the lead to two, 2-0, with an unassisted goal by Mike Hurley (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-SD) with fifty-six seconds remaining in the quarter.

In the second, the Maroons quickly jumped back into the game, outscoring Salisbury 4-3 in the quarter. Freshman attackman Adam Ariosa (Parkton, MD/Loyola) opened the scoring in the quarter with an unassisted strike past Salisbury goalie Max Zarchin (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's) for just his second goal of the season. Salisbury answered Ariosa's goal with two of their own. Top-scorer Dan Boyer (Millersville, MD/Mt. St. Joseph's) connected for his sixty-fourth goal of the season at the 9:43 mark. Fellow senior Ryan Rohde (Glenmoore, PA/Malvern Prep) then scored at the 7:19 mark, with Berkman picking up another assist to extend the lead back to three, 4-1.

The Maroons then scored three straight goals to tie the game at four, with sophomore attackman Scott Pattison (Seattle, WA/Cantebury School), freshman midfielder Chaz Carlson (Cockeysville, MD/St. Paul's), and junior attackman Jon Mason (Orangeville, ONT/Orangeville) scoring in the span of two minutes. Senior midfielder Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) assisted on Pattison's goal, while senior midfielder Pat Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst) assisted on Mason's goal.

The Sea Gulls would then take the lead into halftime, 5-4, as Hurley scored his second goal of the game with seventeen seconds remaining, taking a pass from Creighton.

In the third quarter, Salisbury would open the scoring with three straight goals. Berkman opened the scoring with a goal at the 11:42 mark, with Rohde assisting. Hurley would add his third goal of the game at the 10:04 mark, with Mike Edwards (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) picking up the assist. Boyer then added his second of the game at the 9:15 mark with Yoder picking up the assist to give Salisbury the four-goal lead, 8-4. Carlson would add a goal for Roanoke to pull the Maroons back within three, 8-5, before the Sea Gulls pulled out in front by four once again with three straight goals. Hurley scored his fourth goal at the 8:08 mark, then Boyer with his third of the game at the 4:28 mark with Berkman on the assist. Edwards would add a goal of his own at the 3:49 mark, taking a pass from Creighton.

The Sea Gulls appeared to be in control of the game until the Maroons outscored Salisbury, scoring three goals in the final minute of play in the third. Pattison scored his second goal of the game at the 1:03 mark with Carlson picking up the assist, then Zack Thomas (Bel Air, MD/St. Paul's) would pull the Maroons within four, 11-7, with a score with forty-four seconds remaining. Sophomore attackman Greg Baggan (Lutherville, MD/Boy's Latin) would add a goal with ten seconds remaining, with Edwards picking up the assist, but Thomas scored again for Roanoke with two seconds remaining to make it a four goal game again, 12-8.
