Philadelphia Wings Soar Past New York Titans, 16-11

The New York Titans were defeated 16-11 by the Philadelphia Wings at home at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Friday night. The game was the Titans' first at Nassau Coliseum. Pat Madalena was the Titans leading scorer during the game with three goals. Titans Rookie Brendan Mundorf and forward Mike McLellan each scored two goals. Ryan Boyle and Roy Colsey each dished four assists.

Titans goalie Curtis Palidwor had 19 saves in 25 minutes of play. Palidwor was replaced by goalie Nick Schroeder in the second quarter. Schroeder recorded 24 saves in 35 minutes of play. For Philadelphia, Hofstra graduate Athan Iannucci scored 5 goals and recorded three assists. Sean Greenhalgh recorded four goals and assists.

The Titans entered the game against Philadelphia, their fourth game of the season, with a 1-2 record after defeating the Chicago Shamrox 11-9 at the Titans' home opener at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, January 20. In the Titans' season opener at Chicago on January 6, the Shamrox defeated New York 15-12. In the Titans second game of the season on January 12, the Buffalo Bandits defeated the Titans 16-14.

Philadelphia entered Friday's game with a 1-2 record. The Wings recorded their first win of the season on Saturday, January 20 as well, with a 9-8 win over the San Jose Stealth. The Wings lost their season opener to Edmonton, 13-12 on January 6 and lost their second game of the season to Portland 14-12. The Titans record now stands at 1-3, while Philadelphia's record improves to 2-2.

Titans forward Blake Miller wore number 27 Friday night in honor of Nick Colleluori. Nick, who was 21 years old and a junior on the Hofstra lacrosse squad, passed away from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in November this past year. To honor Nick and the Colleluori family, Miller exchanged his number 26 for the number 27, which was Nick's number during his playing days at Hofstra. The Titans and Miller presented the jersey to the Colleluori family during half time.

The Titans play their next game on Saturday, January 27 against the Rochester Knighthawks at Rochester at 8:00PM EST. The Titans game against the Knighthawks will be broadcast live on SportsNet NY at 8:00 PM EST. Rochester's record currently stands at 3-2, earning them the top spot in the east. Rochester has a dynamic duo in brothers Scott and Shawn Evans. They combine for 45 points this season. The Titans next home game takes place on Saturday, February 17 at 8:00 PM at Madison Square Garden. UNIONDALE, NY - The Philadelphia Wings won their second straight game, 16-11, in their first ever meeting against the New York Titans at Nassau County Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. Philadelphia found their firepower as three players scored three goals or more during the contest including rookie Athan Iannucci and Sean Greenhalgh, both with four, and Dan Marohl with three. The Wings face the Toronto Rock in their next game tomorrow night at the Wachovia Center at 7:30 p.m.

"Our offense finally got their feet under them tonight," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "The challenge for this young team is to keep our focus and rest and prepare for Toronto tomorrow."

The Wings had a strong start shutting out New York 5-0 (Iannucci, Greenhalgh, Shawn Nadelen, Greenhalgh, Dan Marohl) in the first quarter of play with four of the goals being scored in the first 4:48 of the game. New York got their first goal of the night when Roy Colsey scored at 4:08 into the second quarter. The teams traded power play goals, one by the Wings' Marohl and the following by the Titans' Pat Maddalena. Marohl recorded the hat-trick as did Iannucci as he scored two straight. Philadelphia's Keith Cromwell scored his first of the game at 11:38 to give the Wings a 10-2 lead at the half.
