St. Andews Dominates Seton Hill, 16-6
LAURINBURG, N.C.—Three different players scored four goals for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College en route to a 16-6 NCAA Division II women's lacrosse victory over Seton Hill University on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Knights (1-1 Overall) out shot the Griffins (0-2) but a commanding 43-18 margin, helping secure the first win of the season for first year head coach Lyndsey Boswell.
After trading the first two goals of the day, SAPC went on a five-goal run to pull away midway through the first half. Freshman attack Kerrie Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) scored all four of her goals in the first half leading the Knights take a 13-3 halftime advantage.
Both squads scored three goals in a much slower paced second half as St. Andrews coasted to the 10-goal victory.
Brown finished with a game-high seven points after hooking up for three assists. Brown also scooped up a game-high 10 groundballs.
Sophomore Newark, New York, natives Kelsey Binggeli and Jitase Hall each had four goals for the Lady Knights. Binggeli totaled six points adding two helpers while Hall finished with five points chipping in with one assist.
St. Andrews sophomore goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) made 11 saves for the victory in net.
Sophomore Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) recorded her first two goals of the season. Senior Corey Whitbeck (Newark, N.Y.), who helped SAPC win the majority of draw controls (15-9) with nine, finished the afternoon with a two-point ledger (one goal and one assist). Freshman Elise Moore (Wexford, Pa.) scored her first collegiate goal while classmate Kristi Cooke (Greensboro, N.C.) supplied one assist.
Sophomore Krista Ocilka (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the Griffins offensively with three goals and an assist. Sophomore Ellen Einsporn (Stow, Ohio) had a goal and an assist while freshman Jody Balko (West Newton, Pa.) and senior Lindsey Smith (Glenburnie, Md.) had the other two Seton Hill goals.
Freshman netminder Julie Woodburn (Leonardtown, Md.) had a game-high 19 saves.
St. Andrews will go for two straight when they visit Methodist College on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
