#12 UMW Opens with 17-3 Win at Villa Julie
STEVENSON, MD - The 12th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team opened the 2007 season with a 17-3 win at Villa Julie College in Stevenson, MD. Seniors Meaghan O'Leary and Kaitlyn Barker and junior Caitlin Erickson each scored three goals to pace the Eagles, now 1-0 on the year.
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead behind goals from o'Leary and Barker, and, after a Villa Julie goal, proceeded to score the next nine goals, and led, 11-2, at halftime. The Eagles scored the first six goals of the second half in completing the 14-goal win.
Margaret Murray had two goals for UMW, with Ashley Scutari and Emily Talbot adding a goal and two assists apiece. O'Leary had two assists as well for the Eagles.
Junior Meredith Deitrick had ten saves and two goals against in 51 minutes of action, and Helena Polites had two saves and one goal against in nine minutes. The Eagles will visit Sweet Briar College on Tuesday at 4 pm.
