Wingate Opens with 18-4 Victory over Lees-McRae
Wingate, N.C. -- Ten different players scored goals as the Wingate University men's lacrosse team took an 18-4 non-conference victory over Lees-McRae College Saturday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field.
The contest was the season-opening game for both teams. Wingate opens Deep South Conference play Saturday, hosting Presbyterian College for a 2 p.m. encounter. Lees-McRae visits CVAC foe Pfeiffer University Wednesday at 3 p.m.
The visiting Bobcats led 2-1 after the first quarter, thanks to opening frame goals by Jason Schafhauser and Tyler Stieber. Wingate outscored Lees-McRae 17-2 the rest of the way to take the victory. Angus Derbyshire and Mike Bayliss scored three goals each for the winners.
