No. 4 RIT Downs No. 6 Washington College, 15-10

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Fourth-ranked RIT scored eight unanswered goals in the first half to take control of the game en route to a 15-10 men's lacrosse victory over sixth-ranked host Washington College today on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Tigers improved to 1-0 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-1 with the loss.

Washington held a 3-2 lead in the first quarter before Dave Demuth began the Tigers' run with a goal off a feed from Eric Pritchard with 3:29 left in the period. RIT then ran off another seven goals to open the second quarter, building a 10-3 lead on a goal by Pritchard off an assist from Jacob Brunner with 2:23 remaining before halftime. Washington scored two in the final minute of the quarter to cut the lead to 10-5.

Junior midfielder Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored an unassisted goal to open the third quarter scoring at 12:15, cutting the lead to 10-6, but the Tigers answered with four straight goals to take a 14-6 lead and put the game away. The Shoremen scored four of the game's final five goals to account for the final margin.

Pritchard scored three goals and assisted on five others in the win for RIT, while Scott Farress fired in six goals. Demuth had one goal and one assist, while Stephen Papa handed out two assists Brunner scooped up 11 ground balls and went 18-for-25 on face-offs as RIT went 19-for-26 overall. John Foley made 16 saves in goal for RIT.

Junior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) led the Shoremen with two goals and four assists. Senior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) added three goals, while sophomore attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) and Kirby each fired in two. Junior attackman Mike Sutter (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph) tallied one goal and one assist.

RIT held a 35-34 advantage in shots and a 37-29 advantage in ground balls in the game.

The Shoremen are back in action Wednesday when they play host to Elizabethtown at 3:30 p.m.
