Tigers Defeat Molloy, 14-7, in Home Opener

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman attackman Eric Boyle (Annapolis H.S./Annapolis, Md.) scored a game-high four goals to lead Towson University (2-0) to its second straight win, a 14-7 non-conference victory over Molloy College (0-1) in the Tigers' home opener at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium on Saturday evening. It was the first-ever meeting between the Lions and the Tigers after Towson replaced Butler on its schedule with Saturday night's home opener.

Led by a goal and an assist from junior Jonathan Engelke (Farmingdale H.S./Massapequa, N.Y.), the Tigers scored five of the first six goals to jump out to a four-goal advantage with 7:58 remaining in the second quarter. With 6:58 remaining in the period, senior attackman Dom Toscano (Plainedge H.S./Bethpage, N.Y.) ended the Tigers' run by scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from Jeremy Kyrkostas (Hicksville, N.Y.) at the 6:58 mark of the period.

The Lions cut the deficit to 5-3 with 4:08 remaining as senior midfielder Dan Lamonica (Oceanside H.S./Oceanside, N.Y.) scored off a feed from sophomore Mike Ryan (Farmingdale H.S./Farmingdale, N.Y.) before the Tigers ended the half with back-to-back goals, upping their lead to 7-3 at the intermission.

After the teams exchanged goals three times during the third quarter, the Tigers put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter as Boyle scored four straight goals during a nine-minute span to extend their lead to 14-6. Sophomore attackman Justin Schneider (St. Mary's H.S./Stevensville, Md.) recorded three assists during the four-goal spurt.

With 1:40 remaining, senior midfielder Tim Harrington (North Babylon H.S./North Babylon, N.Y.) scored off an assist from Jeffrey Flandina (West Islip, N.Y.) for the final goal of the game.

Boyle was one of five Tigers to score multiple goals while sophomore Randall Cooper (Friends School/Phoenix, Md.) tallied two goals with two assists. Schneider recorded a career-high three assists in the victory. Junior midfielder Billy Brown (North Babylon H.S./North Babylon, N.Y.) led the Lions in the loss with two goals and one assist while Lamonica and Harrington each scored twice. The Tigers held a 43-32 advantage in shots while the Lions won 14 of 25 face-offs.

The Tigers will return to Unitas Stadium next Saturday when they host the University of Maryland at 1:00 p.m. in a game which will be televised on WMAR-TV ABC 2 and ESPNU.
