12th-Ranked Orange Dominates Binghamton
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 12th-ranked Orange cruised to victory against Binghamton, winning 23-4. Syracuse's 23 goals tied the school record and its 19-goal margin of victory is one shy of the program's best mark.
The Orange also scored 23 goals in a 23-4 victory against Albany during the 1998 season. That same year, Syracuse defeated Connecticut by 20 goals, defeating the Huskies 20-0 for its largest margin of victory.
Thirteen different players scored a goal for the Orange. Junior Kristin Brady (Binghamton, N.Y.) and sophomore Megan Mosenson (Malvern, Pa.) each tallied a team-best three goals, while senior Ashley Pike led SU and set a career high with five points on two goals and three assists. Junior Bridget Looney (Silver Spring, Md.), sophomore Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) and freshmen Halley Quillinan (Glenmont, N.Y.), Christina Dove (Bel Air, Md.) and Eileen Finn (Southington, Conn.) each posted two goals, while senior Jill DePetris (Radnor, Pa.), junior Shannon Brushe (Catonsville, Md.) and freshmen Kate Gaffigan (Denver, Colo.), Lindsay Rogers (Rochester, N.Y.) and Jackie DePetris (Radnor, Pa.) each added one goal to complete SU's record performance. Finn, Gaffigan and Rogers scored their first collegiate goals.
The Orange (2-2) wasted no time jumping to an early lead with Jill DePetris scoring 1:20 into the contest. Syracuse would score the first eight goals of the game before Binghamton finally got on the board with 16:10 remaining. SU scored six of the remaining seven goals during the first period to extend its lead to 14-2 at intermission.
Syracuse would continue its strong play during the second stanza, outscoring the Bearcats (0-2), 9-2, to seal the 19-goal victory.
The Orange dominated every aspect of the game, winning the battle in shots (55-13), ground balls (33-13) and draw controls (18-11).
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, squaring off against BIG EAST-rival Georgetown. SU's game against the 10th-ranked Hoyas is set to begin at noon in Washington, D.C. and can be seen live locally on Time Warner Sports.
