No. 10 Washington C. Hammers Elizabethtown, 16-2

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Tenth-ranked host Washington College outscored visiting Elizabethtown, 9-0, in the second half en route to a 16-2 men's lacrosse victory this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shoremen (2-1) got a combined nine goals from junior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) and junior midfielder Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) in the win.

The Blue Jays (1-1) scored the first goal of the game, but the Shoremen grabbed a 2-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 7-2 lead by halftime. Washington netted the only two goals of the third quarter and all seven of the fourth-quarter goals to blow the game open. The Shoremen scored five times in the first 4:11 of the final quarter.

Read tallied a game-high five goals and one assist for the Shoremen, while Kirby fired in four goals, including a running behind-the-back goal in transition during the second quarter. Senior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) added three goals, while sophomore attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored one goal and handed out four assists.

Junior attackman Mike Sutter (Ellicott City, MD/Mount St. Joseph), junior midfielder E.J. Lewis (Carroll County, MD/South Carroll), and junior midfielder Steve Humphries (Fairfax, VA/Hayfield Secondary) each scored one goal for Washington. Lewis's goal was the first of his collegiate career. Junior midfielder Andrew Generazio (Springfield, VA/West Springfield/Bridgton, ME), senior defenseman Jon Kenney (Amherst, NY/Amherst), and senior attackman Chris Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) added one assist each.

Washington sophomore goalie Gordon Cohen (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) made 16 saves and allowed two goals in his first collegiate start, playing the first 58:05 of the game. Sophomore midfielder Thayer Damm (Huntington Valley, PA/LaSalle) went 8-for-12 on face-offs and scooped up a game-high six ground balls.

Josh Dougherty and Chris Senese scored Elizabethtown's goals. The Shoremen held a 39-26 advantage in shots and a 54-41 edge in ground balls in the game. Washington's defense stifled Elizabethtown in transition as the Blue Jays converted just 14 of 27 clear attempts. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Washington & Lee.
