UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Despite a second-half surge in which the Spiders outscored the No. 3 Maryland Terrapins 7-5, the No. 13 University of Richmond women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-9 decision to the undefeated Terrapins (4-0) Wednesday afternoon at First Market Stadium. Despite the loss, the Spiders held the Terrapins, who average 20 goals per game, to their lowest scoring output all season.

Sophomore transfer Allison Furstenburg and junior Jenna Hubbard each recorded a hat trick to lead the Spiders' efforts, while sophomore Mandy Friend chipped in two goals and Ashley Friend added a goal and an assist. Krista Pellizzi netted a Terrapin goal in the opening 3:31 of play off an assist from teammate Kelly Kasper; however, less than two minutes later, Richmond's Hubbard converted a free position shot to knot the game, 1-1.

Maryland's Pellizzi tallied her second goal with 21:57 on the clock, sparking a 9-0 run on the Spiders. Katie Princiotto, Laruen Cohen, Kasper (with two), Casey Magor, Dana Dobbie, Amanda Spinnenweber and Katie Doolittle each contributed to Maryland's run, giving the Terrapins a 10-1 advantage with 32 seconds left until the break. With just seven seconds on the clock, Richmond's Ashley Friend assisted Hubbard on her second tally to close the game to an eight-goal differential at halftime.

Richmond's Megan Jendrossek won the opening draw in the second half for a Spider possession, and Mandy Friend received a pass and took on the defense for her first of two goals on the afternoon just 39 seconds into play. Maryland's Doolittle responded with her second goal of the contest, converting a free position shot.

Richmond answered with a pair of goals, the first by Furstenburg on an impressive move from behind the goal and the second off a free position shot from Ashley Friend. The Terrapins followed with four-straight goals. Pellizzi rounded out her hat trick, and Dobbie sandwiched a Princiotto goal with a pair of her own to give Maryland a 15-5 advantage, its largest lead of the game (10).

The scoring halted for the Terrapins at the 16:44 mark and it thrust into action again for the Spiders. In the final 12:21 of play, Furstenburg added two unassisted goals, Mandy Friend chipped in a goal assisted by Zara Nematollahi, and Ashley Friend assisted Hubbard on her third goal. Despite outscoring the Terrapins 7-5 in the second half, the opening half surge by Maryland was too much and the Terrapins took a six-goal win over the Spiders.

Maryland, the Spiders' third Top 10 opponent, finished with an 18-8 advantage in draw controls. Spider keeper Jackie Swansburg faced 45 shots, finishing with 15 saves between the pipes, the fourth-straight game recording double-digit saves. On the other end, Allie Buote notched six saves in goal for the Terrapins.

The Spiders (3-3) will continue their three-game home stand with Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium. Live coverage will be available at RichmondSpiders.com.

RICHMOND, Va. - The No. 3 Maryland women's lacrosse team notched its fourth win of the season with a 15-9 win against No. 13 Richmond at First Market Stadium on March 7. Junior Casey Magor recorded a career high four assists and five points to lead the Terrapins.

Junior Dana Dobbie notched her third hat trick of the season while securing four draw controls. Juniors Katie Princiotto and Kelly Kasper both added a pair of goals and assists while senior Krista Pellizzi had three goals.

The Terps continued their first half dominance as it outscored the Spiders 10-2 before halftime. In four games this season, Maryland has outscored its opponent 43-15 in the opening frame.
