Quinnipiac Takes 12-5 Loss at Columbia
Tiffany Manzi scored a career-high four goals, but the Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team took a 12-5 loss at Columbia on Wednesday afternoon. Ashley Valentine also scored for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac drops to 1-1 overall, 0-0 in NEC play. Columbia improves to 3-1 overall, 0-0 in Ivy League play.
Quinnipiac struck first when Katy Delagi found a cutting Manzi at 26:06. However, Columbia's Holly Glynn had an answer at 23:57 to tie the game up at 1-1. Manzi scored again on a free position shot at 21:23 to put the Bobcats up a second time at 2-1. However, Columbia reeled off seven straight goals to close out the half to take an 8-2 lead at the recess.
The Lions' Rachael Ryan and Holly Glynn scored the first two goals of the second half to make it 10-2 with 19:52 left in the game. But Manzi battled back with her third and fourth goals of the game at 17:21 and 12:03 to claw the Bobcats closer at 10-4.
Manzi's goal at 17:21 was assisted by Valentine to complete the hat trick. Her fourth goal of the game which came on another free position shot at 12:03 set a career high for the sophomore.
After the Lions scored two more goals to make it 12-4, Valentine made a pass to Fiore who attacked the net and scored with 5:07 remaining in the game. Valentine was credited with the assist on Fiore's second goal of the season.
Nothing else was decided in the remaining five minutes and the Bobcats settled for their first loss of the young season. Quinnipiac's Hannah Nelson made seven saves on 19 chances. Columbia's Emma Mintz turned away seven shots on 12 opportunities.
