Hawks Drop Morrisville State 17-5

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Eight different Hawks scored to give the Hartwick College men's lacrosse team a decisive 17-5 season opening win Wednesday afternoon over Morrisville State at Wright Stadium. Senior midfielder Pat McCormack (Camillus, N.Y.) eclipsed the 100-point barrier for his career with a four-point outing (three goals, one assist).

Senior attacker Lee Austin (Duxbury, Mass.) led the offense with four goals and an assist and fellow senior attacker Brian Miller (Acton, Mass.) added three goals and two assists in the victory. The Hawks are 1-0 on the season and will hit the road to take on No. 20 Western New England on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Hartwick took the lead just 14 seconds into the game when Austin capitalized on a Miller feed and the Hawks never looked back. The Hawks scored seven unanswered goals to begin the game, with McCormack's 100th point coming off of an assist to Austin on the seventh goal late in the second quarter. Morrisville State would get on the board with 1:09 to play in the first half but could never get much going offensively.

Steve Caramello (two goals, two assists), Alex Giovinazzo (two goals), Will Couch (one goal, one assist), Corey White (one goal), and Jake Mahon (one goal) also added to the Hawk's offensive outpour.

The Mustangs got tallies from Zach Sudik (two), Mason Singer, Andrew Redmann, and Will Bowers. Hartwick outshot Morrisville State 55-17. Jason Fautus got the win in net for the Hawks, while the Mustangs' Phil Picard made 16 saves in the loss.
