Green's Six Goals Lead Catawba to Win in DSC Opener

SAINT LEO, FL -- Catawba won its Deep South Conference opener, defeated newest league member Saint Leo 10-6, in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at University Field. The Catawba Indians got six goals and two assists from Kurt Green (San Diego, CA) and improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the DSC, while the Lions fell to 1-2 and 0-1.

Catawba took the lead on a goal by Wayne Carbiener (Orlando, FL) with 10:11 left to play in the opening quarter. Ryan Harris (Vestal, NY) brought the Lions even just 1:20 later. Catawba scored the next two goals to open a 3-1 lead, but Harris scored with just 15.2 seconds remaining in the first and Chris Storrie (Syracuse, NY) tied the game with 10:41 left in the second quarter.

The Indians scored the next three goals, two coming before the half and another at the start of the third quarter. The Lions got within 6-4, but the Tribe added two goals late in the third to grab a safe margin.

Mike Dolesh (Aquasco, MD) added a pair of goals for Catawba, while Matt Puccio (Oakton, VA) had a pair of assists. Harris led Saint Leo with three goals and an assist, while Storrie had an assist and two goals.
