Dominican (CA) 9, Occidental 4

Los Angeles, Calif. Sophomore attackman-middie Kevin Katerndahl tallied two goals and two assists to lead Dominican University of California to a 9-4 victory over host Occidental College in an NAIA vs. club lacrosse non-league game Thursday night.

Dominican (4-3) snapped a two game win streak with the win. Sophomore attackman-middie Alex Choquette added two goals and freshmen attackmen-middies David Palacios and Lawrence Nardi each tallied two goals and an assist. Sophomore attackman-middie Brian Rossetti rounded out the scoring for the Penguins with a goal.

Occidental falls below .500 to 2-3.

Dominican jumped out to an early 3-2 lead in the first quarter and led 6-3 at halftime. The Penguins played zone defense, forcing the Tigers to take outside shots, resulting in 21 saves by freshman goalie Daniel Duong. Neither team scored in the third quarter and Dominican sealed the win with three more goals in the final quarter.

"We played some of our sloppiest lacrosse of the season in the first quarter and a half," observed Dominican head coach Ned Webster. "We really bounced back and got great performances from our attackmen. Our defense was as good as it's been all season. Duong was a stud in the goal."
