Nine Score in McDaniel's 16-9 Win over Goucher

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Connie Wuenschel (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll) recorded a career high-tying six points on four goals and two assists to lead McDaniel to a 16-9 victory over Goucher in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Friday. Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, MD/Damascus) added three goals, all in the first half, and four assists for the Green Terror (3-0), who got goals from nine different players. Emily Blatter and Marlo Tersigni tallied three goals apiece for the Gophers (2-2), who dropped their second consecutive game to a Centennial Conference opponent. Blatter also had three assists.

After the teams combined to fire off seven goals in the first 6:16, Erinn Hopkins (Monrovia, MD/Urbana) finished McDonald's first helper 7 minutes, 36 seconds later to establish the first two-goal lead for either team. At the 18:28 mark, McDonald completed her first-half hat trick for the fourth of seven straight McDaniel goals. Emily Funk (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) capped the first-half scoring, finishing a Wuenschel feed just 3:10 before intermission.

McDonald found Wuenschel twice in the first 2:35 of the second half to push the Green Terror advantage to 9-3. Tersigni snapped a 31-minute, 38-second scoring drought for Goucher, tallying off a Blatter assist at the 35:38 mark. Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) and Michelle Mullen (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) found the back of the net within 58 seconds of each other to make it an 11-4 game with 22:07 to play.

After Blatter tallied unassisted, Stephanie Sudbrook (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) finished the first of two Meagan Mattson (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) before Mattson tallied on a free-position shot to swell the lead to 13-5 at the 12:55 mark. After Tersigni and Wuenschel traded goals, Ferruzzi won the ensuing draw control and went straight to goal to make it a 15-6 game with 10:49 remaining. Goucher tallied two of the game's final three goals in the last three minutes of play.

McDonald finished a solo run 54 seconds into the game before Blatter responded 29 seconds later with an unassisted marker of her own. McDonald re-established the one-goal advantage for McDaniel before Kate Knitter went back-to-back to give the Gophers a 3-2 lead with just four minutes elapsed. Wuenschel tallied unassisted to knot the game at the 5:06 mark before Ferruzzi gave the Green Terror the lead for good 1 minute, 10 seconds later.

Ferruzzi finished with three goals and a team-best seven draw controls while Mattson had a goal and two assists to go with three draw controls. McDonald picked up a game-high six ground balls. McDaniel returns to action at against Montclair State in Wellington, Fla., on Tuesday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
