#18 Hofstra Falls to #16 Denver in Home Opener
Hempstead, NY--Ali Flury scored four goals and added two assists, and Megan Carver recorded four goals and one assist to lead the 16th ranked Pioneers of the University of Denver to a 14-5 victory over #18 Hofstra in the Prides 2007 home opener at James M. Shuart Stadium. Denver improves to 4-1 with the victory, while Hofstra falls to 1-2 on the season.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 6-0 lead midway through the first half and were never threatened. Kristie Leggio got Denver started with an unassisted goal at 27:58. Carver followed with an unassisted tally at 24:03 before Leggio got on the board again with a goal at 22:51. Flury put Denver up by a count of 4-0 with an unassisted score at 22:05 and after Megan Tyrie scored on a free position shot at 18:29, Flury ended the run with her second goal off a feed from Carver at 16:50.
Jen Bach (Catonsville, MD) put Hofstra on the board with a free position goal at 14:02, but Leggio completed her hat trick at the 2:20 mark with her third unassisted goal of the half to send the Pioneers into halftime with a 7-1 lead.
In the second half the Pioneers received two goals from Lexi Sanders and Flury, and three from Carver as they built leads of 10-2 and 12-3 and never trailed by less than six goals.
In addition to Bach, Hofstra received goals from Kimberly Hillier (Farmingdale, NY), Casey McGrath (Kings Park, NY), Kerrin Fraser (Colorado Springs, CO) and Lauren Whitcomb (East Rochester, NY). Junior goalkeeper Maisie Osteen (Charlottesville, VA) made 10 saves in a losing effort.
The Pride return to action on Sunday, March 11 when they host #17 Cornell at 1:00 p.m.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) recorded four goals with a pair of assists and junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) added four goals and an assist, as the No. 16 Pioneers won their fourth straight road game, beating No. 18 Hofstra, 14-5.
Denver (4-1) jumped out to an early lead, going on a 6-0 run over the first 13:10 of the game. Senior Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored two minutes into the game, her first of three in the game.
Hofstra (1-2) broke the scoring drought when Jen Bach scored on a free position shot at the 14:02 mark, the Pride's only goal of the first half, and Denver led 7-1 at the break.
Carver scored three of her four goals during a four-minute stretch in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) had nine saves in the game.
The Pioneers play their fifth of five straight on the road when they visit Stony Brook in Stony Brook, N.Y., on Sunday, Mar. 11 at 10 a.m. MT.
