No. 17 Villa Julie Hands No. 15 St. Mary's 10-8 Loss
St. Mary's City, MD – Freshman attacker Jimmy Dailey (Westminster, MD/Winter Mills) netted a pair of goals in a span of 1:08 minutes to help No. 17 Villa Julie College remain undefeated with a 10-8 victory over No. 15 St. Mary's (Md.) College in Capital Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
Senior attacker Matthew Miller (Denver, CO/Essex CC [Md.]) assisted on both of Dailey's goals as Dailey notched the game-winner at 4:39 and then added the insurance marker with a behind-the-back goal at 3:31. Entering the fourth period, the game was tied at 6-6 following a goal by the Seahawks' junior middie Stu Wright (Bethesda, MD/Good Counsel) with 20 seconds left in the third.
Miller gave Villa Julie (4-0, 3-0 CAC) a 7-6 lead at 13:06 before back-to-back goals by senior attacker Kyle Patton (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) and junior middie Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John's College [DC]) put St. Mary's back on top, 8-7, with 12:39 left in the game.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period before the Seahawks (2-2, 1-1 CAC) rattled off three straight, including a pair from Patton, to take a 3-2 advantage into the second quarter. Albertson assisted on both of St. Mary's goals in the second as the Seahawks outscored VJC, 2-1, in the frame and took a 5-3 lead at halftime.
However, the Mustangs came alive in the third as they posted a 3-1 run behind two goals by Dailey. Dailey finished the contest with a game-high four goals, while junior middie Nicola Bevacqua (Boonton Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) added three goals and an assist. Patton also ended the game with a game-high four goals, while Albertson chipped in two goals and two assists. SMCM's sophomore Marc DiPasquale (Joppa, MD/Boys' Latin) won the face-off battle, going 18-for-22 and scooping up six groundballs.
In goal, senior Jason Woodford (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) picked up the win for VJC as he turned away 10 shots. Senior Rich Barr (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) minded the net for the Seahawks and made 13 saves.
