Trinity Upsets No. 7 Colby in Opener, 10-7

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Trinity College scored seven unanswered goals in the first half on the way to taking a 10-7 victory over seventh-ranked Colby College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women's lacrosse season-opening game Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.

Colby (0-1) came out firing with two goals in the opening 1:50 of play by Lauren Strazzula (Norwell, Mass.) and Courtney Drake (Falmouth, Maine). The Bantams (1-0) stayed calm and ran off seven straight goals from the first one with 21:01 remaining to the seventh goal with 10:43 left to halftime. Lauren Malinowski (Longmeadow, Mass.) had three of her four goals during the run as Trinity took a 7-3 lead at halftime.

The Bantams extended the lead to 9-3 on goals by Sarah Remes (Silver Springs, Md.) and Malinowski in the opening nine minutes of the second half. With Trinity up 10-4, the Mules scored three goals in the final 8:23 to close out the scoring.

C.J. Yanofsky (Needham, Mass.) had one goal and two assists for Trinity. Carrie Disa (Wilbraham, Mass.) added a pair of goals and Remes had one goal and one assist. Bantam goalie Michelle Smith (Wayland, Mass.) stopped 17 shots. Strazzula had three goals and Allie Libby (Needham, Mass.) had three assists for Colby. Drake finished with a pair of goals.
