Hawks Fall at No. 20 WNEC 7-6 in Overtime
ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick College men's lacrosse team came from behind all afternoon to force No. 20 Western New England College into overtime, before falling 7-6 in Springfield, Mass. on Saturday afternoon. Junior midfielder Jon Hayes scored the game-winner with his first goal of the season with 1:32 left in overtime to give the Golden Bears the non-conference victory. The Hawks fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 2-0.
The Hawks played catch-up twice, after falling behind 3-1 and 6-3. Hartwick rallied using goals by Lee Austin, Pat McCormack, and Dan Hushion (with 4:26 left) to send the game into overtime, before Hayes ended the game.
Hartwick also got goals from Steve Caramello (2), and Brandon Wilk (1). Austin, McCormack, Brian Miller, and Wilk were also credited with assists in the loss.
Jason Fautus and John Meade split time in net for the Hawks. Fautas made six saves in the first half, while Meade stopped 11 shots in the second frame. WNEC goalie Chris Body made 13 saves in the game, earning the win.
The Hawks will travel to St. Lawrence on Tuesday afternoon to make-up a previously postponed contest from last weekend. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
