#11 Roanoke Has 14 Score in 29-4 Win Over Mt. Ida
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO--The Roanoke College men's lacrosse team got goals from 14 different players, points from 18, in a 29-4 win over Mt. Ida (MA) College on Sunday afternoon in Colorado Springs, CO. The Maroons improve to 5-1 on the season with the win, which came in the championship game of the Colorado College Invitational. Mt. Ida falls to 1-2 after the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Before Sunday's game was even five minutes old, the Maroons had a 7-0 lead. Just 48 seconds into the contest, Roanoke senior Jon Mason scored the first of his seven goals. He added a second with 13:29 left and junior Matt Duke followed with the team's third goal, that with 12:54 left. Mason, junior Rob Clements, and senior Brendan Moore each scored within a minute of each other and Roanoke's lead was up to 6-0. Mason added his fourth of the first period, with 10:08 showing on the clock and Roanoke led 7-0. Mt. Ida's Brett Conley broke the Roanoke run, but Moore and freshman Ashton Hotchkiss finished the period with goals for Roanoke. The Maroons led 9-1 after one.
Roanoke opened the second with six straight goals, ended the half with six consecutive scores, sandwiching those around an Alex Champagne goal for Mt. Ida. Roanoke's lead was 21-2 at the half. Andrew Macmannis and Will Stark scored goals for the Maroons in the second, each getting their first of the season. Hotchkiss added a goal and two assists for Roanoke, which would score just eight times in the second half.
Mt. Ida scored the first goals of the third and fourth quarters, but that would be all the offensive production it would get. Senior defender Jon Miginsky scored his first career goal, and R.J. Miltner scored in the 5-1 Roanoke third quarter. Junior Mike Hadley scored his second career goal to open scoring for the Maroons in the fourth, with Hotchkiss and Stark getting Roanoke's 28th and 29th strikes.
Hotchkiss recorded a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists, while fellow freshman Pat March had two goals and three assists. Clements scored twice and Adam Ariosa added two assists, as did junior attackman Matt Nicola. Scott Lindberg and freshman Luke Nichols also had a point in the win. Josh Rea won 10 of 12 face-off attempts, Miltner three of six. Roanoke reserves accounted for 19 of the 29 goals scored and 33 of the 52 points recorded.
The Maroons return to action on Saturday in Carlisle, PA against the Red Devils of Dickinson College. The game begins at 1:00 pm.
