Eagles Come on Strong, Dominate Fairfield, 19-7

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College Women's Lacrosse team notched its first win of the season in today's home opener at the Newton Sports Complex, besting Fairfield University, 19-7. The win improves the Eagles to 1-1 on the season.

Looking to rebound from a season-opening 18-8 loss at Maryland last Saturday, the Eagles once again found themselves on shaky ground to start the game. Though BC scored first, Fairfield came right back with their first of four unanswered goals. Down 4-1 early, Eagles Head Coach Bowen Holden called a timeout to settle her squad. Holden's move paid off, as Boston College outscored the Stags of Fairfield 6-1 the rest of the first half, en route to a 7-5 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Eagles were dominant. The offense exploded for 12 goals, and was unstoppable near Fairfield's net. For the half, BC outscored Fairfield 12-2, and at one point had scored 16 of the game's last 17 goals.

Sophomore attack Jenna McCabe paced the Eagles with five goals. Sophomore attack Shauna Culhane, sophomore midfielder Emily Hannigan, freshman midfielder Lauren Costello, and sophomore midfielder Margot Spatola added three goals apiece, while sophomore midfielder Lauren Fitzpatrick found the net twice. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made eight saves after coming into the game early in the first half.

The Eagles play next on Wednesday, March 7th at home against Harvard, at 4:00 p.m.
