Washington & Lee Cruises by Hood, 24-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee had 16 different goal-scorers en route to a 24-1 victory over Hood College in men's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (2-3) jumped out to a 12-0 halftime lead on the strength of four first-half points (3 g, 1 a) by junior attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) and cruised to the 23-goal victory, the team's largest margin of victory since a 24-1 win over Guilford during the 2001 campaign.

Rider, senior attackman Grant Martin (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) and freshman attackman Max Mancuso (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led W&L with four points each. Martin tallied one goal and three assists, while Mancuso had two goals and two helpers. Freshman attackman Will Keigler (Timonium, Md./Gilman) notched two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Bose Bratton (Raleigh, N.C./Woodberry Forest), senior defenseman Jesse Ford (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), junior attackman Will Englehart (Cockeysville, Md./Dulaney) and sophomore attackman Seth Fishman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford) each added two goals. Sophomore Alex Heaton (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) started and played the first three quarters in goal, making two saves. Freshman Matt Mason (Gladwyne, Pa./St. Mark's (Mass.)) played the final 15 minutes in goal, making one save and allowing the Blazers' lone tally.

Freshman Ricardo Gomez (Germantown, Md./Northwest) got Hood (0-6) on the board with an unassisted goal at the 7:58 mark of the fourth quarter. Junior Sam Hofmann (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) played the entire game in goal, registering 22 saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it plays Franklin & Marshall at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Md. The game is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.

LEXINGTON, Va.--Freshman Ricardo Gomez scored the lone goal for the Hood College men's lacrosse team in a 24-1 defeat at the hands of the Washington & Lee Generals Monday afternoon in a non-conference game. Hood slips to 0-6 on the season while the Generals move to 2-3.

Gomez's first career goal in the blue and gray came at the 7:58 mark of the fourth quarter. Blazer goalie Sam Hofmann put forth a valiant effort in the cage, stopping 22 shots on the afternoon.

Hood returns to action Wednesday against another opponent from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets, at 3:30 p.m. in Ashland, Va.
