Boxers Show Improvement in Loss to Pomona-Pitzer

FOREST GROVE - Pacific put together a more solid effort in their rematch with Pomona-Pitzer Monday, shoring up the defense and taking advantage of more offensive opportunities in a 16-2 loss to the Sagehens in women's lacrosse action at Tom Reynolds Field.

The Boxers (0-3) put up four more shots than they did on Saturday and saw Alyse Hetzel (So., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Abby Coleman (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) each score goals. Pomona-Pitzer (5-1), however, showed themselves to be the more experienced team, taking a 34-7 edge on shots, a 23-12 advantage in ground balls and a 12-6 advantage in draw controls.

Pacific scored both of their goals in the first half. Coleman connected just three and a half minutes into the match, running through the defense on the far side of the field for her first goal of the season. Hetzel connected with six minutes left in the half, taking a draw control all the way to the cage on the right side.

Emily Farrell and Lindsey Slote led the Sagehens in scoring for the second straight game against the Boxers. Farrell led Pomona-Pitzer with four goals, equaling her output from Saturday's match. Slote finished with three goals and Erin Bradley also added three. Bradley and Liz Mackell each had two assists.

Pacific goalkeeper Valerie Nelson (So., Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) registered 10 saves in the loss, while Sagehens' reserve keeper Andrew Weiss made one save in the victory. Starter Molli Held earned credit for the victory.

The Boxers will return to action on Thursday, traveling to Linfield for a 4:00 p.m. match. Pacific will then travel to Texas for matches against University of Dallas, Fontbonne and Oberlin.
