No. 4 Wesleyan Downs Babson, 13-5
BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Fourth-ranked Wesleyan University improved to 2-0 with a victory on Sunday, as the Cardinals defeated host Babson College by a score of 13-5 in a non-conference men's lacrosse contest at MacDowell Field. Babson suffered its first loss to drop to 1-1.
Sophomore attack Jason Ben-Eliyahu (East Setauket, N.Y.) led all players with four goals and two assists for Wesleyan, while first-year Jon Killeen (Derry, N.H.) added two goals and two helpers in the winning effort. Senior Tom Bendon (Latham, N.Y.) paced the Cardinals with a game-high eight groundballs, and senior goalie Charlie Congleton (Groton, Mass.) made 11 saves while allowing just two goals in 30 minutes in net. He has a .764 save percentage and a 5.33 GAA through his first two starts.
Sophomore E.J. Peterson (Framingham, Mass.) led Babson with two goals, while first-year goalie Chris Jacobs (Pittsford, N.Y.) came off the bench to make eight saves in 49 minutes of action.
Wesleyan took control of the game early with a dominating first quarter, outscoring Babson by a count of 6-0 behind three goals and one assist from Ben-Eliyahu. The Cardinals then tacked on three more scores in the second to take a 9-2 into the half, and Babson managed just three second half goals as Wesleyan held on for the 13-5 win.
