No. 19 St. Mary's Holds off Dickinson for 11-10 Win
Orlando, FL – The St. Mary's (Md.) College men's lacrosse team, ranked 19th in Division III, posted an 11-10 win over Dickinson College in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon in Florida after holding off the Red Devils' fourth period comeback rally.
The Seahawks (3-2) led 3-2 after the first period with goals from juniors Ryan Niland (Arnold, MD/Broadneck), John Oliver (Newtown, CT/Newtown), and Cyrus Albertson (Chevy Chase, MD/St. John's College [DC]).
After outscoring Dickinson 3-0 in the second, St. Mary's held a 6-2 advantage at halftime. Both Oliver and Albertson netted goals in the Seahawk run.
SMCM went up 10-5 after the third quarter with Oliver and Albertson each completing the hat trick.
Dickinson (2-2) rallied in the fourth frame as the Red Devils outscored St. Mary's, 5-1. DC actually scored its 10th in the waning moments of the game but thanks to freshman Ryan Alexander's (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) lone goal in the last period, the Red Devils' comeback rally fell short. Alexander also finished the day with three goals for St. Mary's.
Senior Rich Barr (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) minded the net for the Seahawks and after only making one stop in the first half, Barr made 16 saves in the second half with eight in each period to finish the game with a season-high 17.
