Garnet Cruise Past University of Dallas
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Eight different Swarthmore players scored as the Garnet opened their spring break trip in Colorado with a resounding 15-1 win over the University of Dallas Tuesday afternoon. Megan Sanborn '08, Marissa Schaffer '09 and Anna de Regt '09 tallied hat tricks as the Garnet improved to 2-0 on the season.
Sanborn continued to fuel the Garnet offensive attack, controlling the opening draw and take the ball right to the Lady Crusader goal for the opening score at 29:40. Sanborn followed up with her second score 6:35 later and assisted on de Regt's first goal at 22:33. The score came just 21 seconds after a goal by Alex Gilbert-Bono, putting Swarthmore out front 4-0.
De Regt would score two more times in the half as the Garnet dominated the first 30 minutes, taking a 12-0 lead in the halftime.
Susannah Blair made four saves for Swarthmore in the first half while seeing the Garnet offense out-shoot Dallas 24-5 and convert three of five free-position opportunities.
Sanborn finished the afternoon with three goals, three assists and four draw controls. Garnet senior Abigail Fischer netted her first collegiate goal in the second half while freshman Hannah Jaicks scored her first two goals.
Freshman Allison Grein played the second half in goal for Swarthmore, posting two saves. Swarthmore held a 29-9 shot advantage on the game while collecting 13 of the 19 draw controls.
Swarthmore takes on host Colorado College on Thursday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m. before concluding the trip with a 2:00 p.m. game at Regis College on Saturday, March 17.
