No. 7 Limestone Takes 14-8 Victory Over Catawba

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Eleven Saints scored in No. 7 Limestone's 14-8 win over Catawba on Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. Limestone improves to 4-1 with the win as Catawba falls to 3-3.

The Saints jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first quarter, and held a 5-2 advantage in the second period to enter halftime with an 8-2 lead. Catawba mounted a comeback in the third quarter as the Indians outscored Limestone 5-1. However, the Saints clinched the win by scoring five goals to Catawba's one in the final period.

Limestone held a 35-28 advantage on shots and a 32-22 advantage on ground balls. Limestone and Catawba each took 13 face-offs. Jay Tranello (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Saints with three goals, while Colin Bell (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) had two. Bell also had a game-high four assists.

Nick Chandler (Holbrook, N.Y.) had eight ground balls and was 10-for-18 in face-offs. Goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 13 saves for the Saints. Cameron Kent scored three goals for Catawba as Nick Desper chipped in two. Eric Finland was 10-for-22 in face-off attempts. Goalkeeper Ben Huber had 10 saves.

Limestone hosts Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference rival Belmont Abbey on Saturday at Saints Field at 12:00 p.m.

GAFFNEY, SC -- Seventh-ranked Limestone pulled away from Catawba in the final quarter to claim a 14-8 win in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints improve to 4-1 with the win, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-3.

Catawba trailed 8-2 at the half, but rallied to cut the margin to 9-7 at the end of the third quarter. Cameron Kent (Campbell, NY) and Nick Depser (Carrboro, NC) each had two goals in the period for the Tribe. Limestone scored twice in the opening five minutes of the final quarter to open up an 11-7 lead. Kent scored the last of his three goals on the day with 7:54 to play, but the Saints answered eight seconds later and tacked on two more goals late in the quarter.

Limestone grabbed a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter and scored four more goals following a tally by Kurt Green (San Diego, CA) to start the second quarter. Green added three assists in the contest. Jay Tranello had three goals for the Saints, while Colin Bell had two goals and four assists.
