Manhattanville Roughed up by 19th-Ranked Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Fresh off a season-opening overtime win at Western Connecticut State Saturday, the Valiant women's lacrosse team ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday, taking a 20-3 loss at the hands of 19th-ranked Rowan at John Page Field in the first day of a two-game spring break road trip.

Rowan, which was ranked 15th in the preseason but lost two of its first three games, emphatically got back on track against the Valiants with 11 first half goals. Manhattanville was out-shot 35-11 for the game by the Profs, who reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament one year ago.

Kelly McMurray (Brewster, N.Y.) scored two of the three Valiant goals, her second straight game with two goals, while Abbe Grimes (Hamden, Conn.) tallied the other. Freshman Mary Albano (Trumbull, Conn.) made eight saves but suffered the first loss of her young career.

Kelly Angstadt scored six goals for the Profs, one of five Rowan players to score at least two goals in the game. Lauren Crennan had four goals and an assist.

The Valiants (1-1) close out their mid-week road trip Thursday at 3:30 p.m. when they take on Eastern. Manhattanville opens the home season Saturday at 3:00 p.m. against Elms at GoValiants.com Field.
