Strong 4th Quarter Propels #8 Molloy Over Wingate
Wingate, N.C.----The Molloy College men's lacrosse team outscored Wingate University 7-0 to start the fourth quarter en route to a 13-8 NCAA Division II victory Wednesday night at the Wingate University Soccer Stadium.
The number eight team in the NCAA Division II top 10 poll, Molloy improves to 2-1 overall on the young season. Wingate is 3-2 overall. Molloy hosts Merrimack (Mass.) College Saturday at 1 p.m., while the Bulldogs hit the road to face St. Andrews Presbyterian College Saturday at 3 p.m.
Molloy senior attack Dom Toscano scored four of his game-high six goals during the crucial 7-0 run. The two teams were tied 6-6 after three quarters when Toscano and the Lions started their run.
Toscano scored the game-winner with 14:07 to play in the fourth frame, giving the visitors a 7-6 advantage. Ironically, he scored the first goal and the last goal of the 7-0 run. Toscano tallied the final goal of the flurry at the 3:34 mark, putting Molloy up 13-6.
Six other student-athletes scored goals for the Lions. For Wingate, sophomore attack Ryan Otterblad (Dumfries, Va.) topped the charts with three goals. Bulldog senior midfielder Bryan Safarik (Vancouver, B.C.) added two scores.
Lion sophomore goalkeeper Rob Humann (Hicksville, N.Y.) picked up the win for the visitors. He played 59 minutes, allowing seven goals and recording 10 saves. Bulldog junior goalkeeper David Suthers (Manassas, Va.) went the distance. Suthers allowed 13 goals and notched 10 saves.
