No. 8 Washington College Stops Greensboro, 9-4
Greensboro, N.C. – Greensboro College scored four second half goals, however it was not enough as 10th ranked Washington College won, 9-4, at Pride Field on Thursday. The victory moved the Shoremen to 4-1, while GC fell to 1-4.
GC's Randall Brooks opened up fourth quarter scoring with an unassisted goal, slicing the lead to 6-3 in favor of the Shoremen. WC, however, then took control with three consecutive goals, including two men up scores by Ostrusy and Chris Read, before Cameron Collier closed out scoring with 16 seconds remaining for the final Pride goal.
Washington College took a 5-0 lead at the half, however two goals by The Pride in the third quarter pulled GC within four goals. The first GC goal of the game came on a shot by Rob Morgan just 2:02 into the frame. WC answered with a goal by Andrew Ostrusky, followed by the second Pride goal of the quarter, this time by Brian Butterworth.
Washington recorded 41 shots, including 17 in the final period, as opposed to 25 for Greensboro. Ostrusky and Chris Read had two scores and one assist for Washington College. Casey O'Connor dished out two assists for the Shoremen. In goal, WC's Gordon Cohen (3-0) had 3 saves. Mike Foderaro (1-3) stopped 14 shots for The Pride.
The Pride had its 6 points spread among six different player. In addition to Brooks, Rob Morgan, Brian Butterworth and Hap Collier tallied. GC received assists from Neal McKinney and Kyle Murphy.

REENSBORO, NC -- Eighth-ranked Washington College jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead and went on for a 9-4 win over host Greensboro College in a men's lacrosse game today in Greensboro, NC. The Shoremen improved to 4-1 on the season with the win, while the Pride fell to 1-4 with the loss.
Washington opened the scoring with 12:15 left in the first quarter as junior midfielder Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored off a feed from junior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin). Sophomore midfielder Matt Moreton (Darnestown, MD/Northwest) followed with a goal off an assist from sophomore midfielder Casey O'Connor (Crownsville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) with 11:06 left in the quarter.
Read pushed the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal with 10:24 left in the second quarter and O'Connor found senior midfielder Mike Hughes (Pasadena, MD/Mount St. Joseph) for a goal with 9:32 to play in the period. Senior midfielder Anthony Hidell (Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill) rounded out the first half scoring with a goal with 4:20 left before the break.
Greensboro tried to mount a rally in the second half as the Pride got on the board with 12:58 to play in the third quarter when Rob Morgan scored off a feed from Kyle Murphy. The Shoremen pushed the lead back to five goals when senior midfielder Andrew Ostrusky (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park/Bridgton, ME) scored an unassisted goal with 10:15 left in the third, but the Pride cut the lead to 6-2 with 9:16 left in the third quarter.
Neither team scored again until 13:27 remained in the fourth quarter. The Pride then trimmed the margin to 6-3 on a unassisted goal by Randall Brooks. The Shoremen answered by putting the game out of reach with three unanswered goals. Ostrusky scored an extra-man goal off a feed from senior attackman Chris Mancini (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) with 11:47 remaining, Hidell scored with 3:46 to play, and Ostrusky found Read for an extra-man goal with 3:03 on the clock. Greensboro's Cameron Collier rounded out the scoring by firing in a goal off a feed from Neal McKinney with 16 seconds remaining.
