Stony Brook Names Three as 2018 Lacrosse Captains

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Head coach Jim Nagle and the Stony Brook men's lacrosse program have announced team captains for the 2018 season. Senior Kyle Abdellatif, junior Ryland Rees, and sophomore Harrison Matsuoka have been selected to lead the team this year.

"Kyle, Ryland, and Harrison will do an exceptional job as the captains of the 2018 team," said Nagle. "They exhibit all the program's core values on a consistent basis. As on any team, the captains will call on seniors Matt Robison, Tyler Anderson, Brandon Maciejewski, Matt Philbin and Rob Talay to assist in the leadership focus."

Abdellatif has been a staple in the Seawolves' defensive unit through the past three season. The Ballston Spa, New York, native has missed just one game in his career, starting all 14 games as a junior. He tallied 31 ground ball and caused eight turnovers last season. Rees was slowed by injury in his second season at Stony Brook, but started all ten games he played in as a sophomore. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native led the team with 44 ground balls last season, adding 11 caused turnovers and five points on the year. Rees earned First Team All-America East honors following his sophomore season. Matsuoka, who hails from Calgary, Alberta, played in all 14 games, making five starts in his collegiate debut. He picked up 22 ground balls, adding a goal and assist last season.

The Seawolves will play in a pair of scrimmages before opening the 2018 season at home on Saturday, Feb. 10. Stony Brook will host Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m. at LaValle.
