Catamounts Wrap up Oregon Trip with Win vs. Longwood

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Vermont women's lacrosse team wrapped up a week long trip to Eugene, Oregon with a 15-11 victory over Longwood College on Saturday afternoon at Pape' Field at the University of Oregon. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Catamounts and moves their record to 2-5 on the year.

Senior Becky Kenison (Woodstock, Vt.), junior Emilie Clark (Calais, Vt.) and sophomore Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario) scored three goals each to lead the Catamounts. Clark and Millar also added two assists each in the contest.

"I'm pleased we found a way to win today," said Vermont head coach Jen Johnson. "We still need to put together a full 60 minute game, but we showed moments of greatness today and that is encouraging given the number of young players we have on the team. Every game is a great learning experience for our team and is preparing us for the America East slate."

The Lancers scored the first goal of the game four minutes into the contest and Millar netted her first tally two minutes later to make the score 1-1 with 24:15 left in the first half. Longwood's Cathleen Strain would score three straight goals to push the Lancers ahead 4-1 with 17 minutes remaining in the stanza. The Catamounts would score seven of the next 10 goals to take an 8-7 lead into halftime. The Catamounts controlled much of the second half and out scored Longwood 7-4 to post the 15-11 victory.

Strain finished the game with five goals and five draw controls for Longwood. Teammate Kathleen Barry added a hat trick.

Jennifer Holliday finished the game with 13 saves in the Lancers' net. Junior Meaghan Hanley (Fort Pierce, Fla.) made 13 stops for the Catamounts.

Longwood, which is making the transition from Division II to Division I this season, remains winless on the season 0-6.

Vermont returns to action on Wednesday (March 21) hosting Boston College at 4:00 pm at Moulton Winder Field. Admission is free to all regular season home games this season.
