George Mason 13, Boston University 8
FAIRFAX, Va. - Despite a career-high four goals from senior Angie Martin, the Boston University lacrosse team was defeated by George Mason, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at Robinson Field. The Terriers now stand at 2-2 on the year.
The game was delayed more than two hours and wasvswitched to a different playing venue after it was determined that the field conditions at George Mason Stadium were unplayable due to an ice storm in the area.
The Patriots never trailed in the contest, scoring the first two goals of the game before opening up a 9-5 lead at the half. The Terriers scored twice to open the second half to cut the deficit to 9-7, but the home team scored four of the contest's final five goals to improve to 3-2 on the year.
BU's four other goals came from junior Molly Collins, sophomore Sarah Dalton and freshman Erica Baumgartner and Traci Landy. Baumgartner also earned an assist on Martin's fourth tally of the game.
Junior Lauren Morton recorded a game-best three caused turnovers, while senior Noelle Hopper tied for the game high in ground balls with four.
Mason was paced by freshman Kelly Davis, who tallied five goals and an assist. Sophomore Brittany Berger (3g, 1a) and senior Melissa Venturi (2g, 2a) each had four points on the day.
BU wil return to action on Wednesday, March 21, when it visits Yale for a contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
