Fairfield Scores Final Four Goals to Down MSM in OT
Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team scored all three goals of the overtime period to earn a 16-13 victory over visiting Mount St. Mary's College on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Stags to 3-4 on the year, while the Mount falls to 0-5.
Amy Neville netted the game winning goal, her second of the game, 2:30 in to the overtime period. The Stags won the ensuing draw control and scored an insurance goal 12 seconds later when Ashley Chappell netted her fifth goal of the game, on a pass from Sara Masterson. Abbey Goodwin rounded out the scoring with a goal from a Neville pass with 44 seconds to play.
Chappell tallied five goals to lead the Stags effort. Neville added a pair of assists for a four-point day, while Masterson had two goals and one assist. Goodwin, Mary Vallely, Kylee Martin, Kelly Barnes and Ashley Jenkins all added goals for the Stags in the win.
Lauren Chatnik minded the net for the entire 66 minutes of the game, making 12 saves, including the one shot Mount put on net in the extra period. Her Mount counterpart Jane Karger recorded 13 saves in the game, but just one in overtime.
Fairfield dominated the draw controls in the game, finishing with 20 wins in 33 chances. The Stags also out shot the Mount 38-37 and recorded 27 ground balls to the visitors 24.
Casey Paris scored five goals for the Mount, which also received four goals from Katelyn Catanese and three goals from Kathleen Rossetti. Katie Falatach had a goal and three assists for the Mount.
Fairfield returns to action on Tuesday, March 20, traveling to Bethlehem, Pa., for a 3:00 p.m. contest against Lehigh.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation and scored three goals in overtime to knock off Mount St. Mary's 16-13 in overtime in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday.
Casey Paris (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) paced the Mount (0-5) with five goals. Katelyn Catanese (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Kathleen Rossetti (Havre de Grace, Md./Perry Hall) each recorded a hat trick while Katie Falatach (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) posted a goal and two assists in the loss.
Ashley Chappell tied the game at 13 with 41 seconds remaining in regulation off an Amy Neville assist to send the game into overtime before Neville notched the go-ahead goal in overtime 1:30 into the extra session. Chappell then scored off a Sarah Masterson helper 12 seconds later before Neville capped the win by assisting Abbey Goodwin with 44 ticks on the clock.
Neville finished the game with four points (two goals and two assists), including three in the final seven minutes of the game. Chappell posted five goals for the Stags (3-4) while Masterson tallied two goals and an assist in the winning effort.
The game was a seesaw battle throughout before Fairfield scored the final four goals of the match to earn its first win against the Mountaineers since 1998.
The Stags jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first seven minutes of the game. Neville got the scoring started with an unassisted goal at 2:04 before Kylee Martin found the twine four minutes and four seconds later.
The Mount responded with three unanswered goals to grab a 3-2 advantage. Catanese notched the squad's first marker at 8:44 before Falatach set up Paris at the 13:11 mark. Rossetti capped the run with her first goal of the year with 12:45 remaining.
After Ashley Jenkins knotted the match at 3 with an unassisted goal at 19:52, Falatach hooked up with Catanese at 21:37 to regain the advantage for Mount St. Mary's. Jenna Duffy (Bel Air, Md./Catholic) then set up Paris for her 100th career goal 62 seconds later.
