No. 16 Penn Runs Past No. 18 Yale, 9-3

PHILADELPHIA--Six Quakers scored nine goals in Sunday's 9-3 victory over Yale in both teams' Ivy League opener. No. 16 Penn improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Ivy League while the No. 18 Bulldogs fell to 4-3 and 0-1 in the Ancient Eight.

Penn's Melissa Lehman scored a quick goal at 26:37 to kick things off, but Yale responded four minutes later with a goal at 22:24 to tie it up. The Quakers got three more goals, one from sophomore Kaitlyn Lombardo and two from senior Chrissy Muller to go ahead 4-1. The Bulldogs tacked on another at 4:34 to keep the game close heading into halftime.

After the break, Penn's defense clamped down and allowed just one more goal at 27:38 to start the period. Meanwhile, the Red and Blue attack put five more in the net. Junior Chelsea Kocis scored the Quakers' final two goals of the game at 9:45 and 2:49.

Penn dominated the game doubling Yale's shots 32-15 and missing just one of 18 clears while the Bulldogs failed to clear the ball five times. The teams' were even in turnovers with 15 apiece.

The Quakers wrap up a three-game homestand Saturday, March 24 against Cornell at Franklin Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.

Three different Penn players scored two goals each to lead the Quakers to a 9-3 win over Yale Sunday afternoon at Franklin Field. Chelsea Kocis, Chrissy Muller and Melissa Lehman each had a pair of tallies, while Jenn Warden had a pair for the Bulldogs.

Penn scored the final five goals of the game after Yale drew within 4-3 with 27:38 to play. Yale goalie Ellen Cameron made 13 saves while Penn's Sarah Waxman had six.

The game, the Ivy League opener for both teams, had been postponed a day due to the winter storm that hit the Northeast.

Yale returns to action Wednesday against BU at Johnson Field at 3:00 p.m.
