No. 15 Denver Pioneers Rout UMBC, 15-2
BALTIMORE, Md. – Senior midfielder Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored five goals and recorded three assists, as the No. 15 DU women's lacrosse team routed UMBC, 15-2.
Junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) put Denver on the board first just over a minute into the contest off a feed from freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.). Freshman Lexi Sanders (Greenwood Village, Colo.) scored 10 minutes later, and Carver added two more, just 13 seconds apart, playing in her hometown. A Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) goal gave the Pioneers (7-1) a 6-0 cushion before UMBC (3-5) got on the board with 6:14 remaining in the first half.
Leggio opened the second half on a tear, recording an unassisted hat trick within the first 4:20, and she added another pair of goals later in the half. After getting eight points in the win over George Washington in her last game, sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) had two goals and an assist against the Retrievers. Junior goalkeeper Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) had nine saves while playing the entire game.
The Pioneers will play Cornell on Wednesday, Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. MT at a neutral site in College Park, Md.

Baltimore, Md.—Senior midfielder Kristie Leggio scored all of her five goals in the second half as visiting Denver improved to 7-1 with a 15-2 win over UMBC. It was the seventh consecutive win for the 15th-ranked Pioneers and UMBC's (3-5) third consecutive setback.
Denver's Megan Carver put the visitors ahead, 1-0 just 1:02 into the contest and the Pioneers built a 6-0 lead before UMBC freshman Amanda Gable scored on a free position shot with 6:14 to play in the half. Denver led, 6-1 at intermission and Leggio scored the first three goals of the second half to put the game well in control.
Leggio added three assists, while Carver posted three goals and one assist. Gable and freshman Kelly Burgoyne each scored goals for the Retrievers. UMBC opens America East Conference play vs. New Hampshire on Saturday.
