Cotter Paces #2 Dowling to 15-9 Win Over Bentley

Stony Brook, NY - A 7-1 Golden Lion scoring rally in the first quarter gave the Golden Lions just enough cushion to take down the Falcons of Bentley College, 15-9, in an NE-10-ECC matchup on March 20. The Golden Lions improve to 2-1 as the Falcons even out at 1-1.

The duo, Ryan Campbell (Brampton, Ontario) and Nick Cotter (Whitby, Ontario), once again proved their Canadian chemistry as they combined for 9 goals and 4 assists on the night. Campbell started the first quarter rally as he converted Cotter's pass in the second minute of play. Chris Woods was quick to retaliate for the Falcons, but his tally would be the only one of the quarter. Dowling went on to blow to advantage to six as Cotter netted his first three of the game.

The Falcons snapped back in the second quarter, outscoring the Golden Lions, 4-3, with Andy Curtis leading the charge with three goals. Kenneth Wenke (West Babylon, NY) added to Dowling scoring as he tallied his first collegiate goal as Kevin Rimmer (Ronkonkoma, NY) added his second of the game.

The Golden Lions and Falcons remained neck and neck for the remainder of the game as Dowling would only sneak in one more goal over Bentley (5-4).

Nick Tracey (Farmingville, NY) made seven saves to record the win as Joe Biondolillo (Holtsville, NY) led the defense with six ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

The Golden Lions will face-off at 3:00 PM against Dominican at Patchogue-Medford High School on March 24.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Junior midfielder Nick Cotter (Whitby, Ontario) scored five goals to pace the Golden Lions as Dowling used a first-quarter scoring outburst to get past the Bentley men's lacrosse team, 15-9, on Tuesday night in non-conference action at LaValle Stadium. The Golden Lions, ranked second in the latest Division II poll, improve to 2-1, while the Falcons even their record at 1-1.

Dowling pulled away early with a 7-1 advantage in the first quarter. Sophomore attack Chris Woods (Duxbury, Mass/Sandwich HS & Tilton School) scored early to tie the game at 1-1 before the Golden Lions before scoring seven unanswered goals, including three goals from Cotter, to take an 8-1 lead midway through the second quarter.

Sophomore attack Andy Curtis (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) helped the Falcons make a charge late in the second, scoring three goals in the final six minutes before halftime, combined with a tally from senior attack Bob Catala (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Yorktown HS) to cut the lead to 10-5 at the half.

Bentley's defense slowed down Dowling in the second half, but the Golden Lions held off the Falcons for the remainder of the contest.
