Molloy Records 11-5 Victory at Dominican
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Sophomore Keith Galante (Plainedge, NY) handed out a career high seven assists and sophomore Rob Humann (Hicksville, NY) recorded a career high 20 saves to help lead the Molloy College men's lacrosse team to an 11-5 conference victory over the Chargers of Dominican College. The Lions improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the ECC, while the Chargers drop to 1-4 and 0-1.
Less than a minute into the game, senior Tim Harrington (North Babylon, NY) notched Molloy's first goal of the game. Senior James Sampson (Massapequa, NY) scored the Lions second goal as three and a half minutes came off the clock and two minutes later, sophomore Mike Ryan (Farmingdale, NY) recorded a goal from Galante.
The Chargers put their first goal on the scoreboard with 4:45 left in the half but junior Jeremy Kyrkostas (Hicksville, NY) gave Molloy the 4-1 advantage after a quarter of play. The Lions held the Chargers scoreless during the second quarter. However, Molloy's offense continued to place goals in the net. Galante assisted on all three second quarter goals as sophomore Victor Galasso (West Islip, NY) placed one between the pipes and senior Dom Toscano (Bethpage, NY) scored two goals.
The Lions scored only one goal in the third quarter, which came from junior Jeffrey Flandina (West Islip, NY) as less than a minute ticked off the clock. The Chargers cut their deficit to five (8-3) after they netted two goals in the third. Molloy and Dominican traded goals during the fourth quarter but a pass from Galante allowed Flandina to put the final goal of the game in the net as the Lions came away with the 11-5 victory.
Galante finished the game with seven assists, while Toscano and Flandina each had two goals. Junior Billy Brown won 11 of 13 face-offs and picked up eight groundballs in the win.
