FAIRFAX, Va. (March 21, 2007) – After winning both of its games last week, the George Mason women's lacrosse team (3-3) was in search of its third consecutive win on Wednesday night against the No. 9 team in the country according to the latest IWLCA poll, the Georgetown Hoyas (4-2). Unfortunately, the Patriots were unable to extend their winning ways and pull off the upset, falling to the Hoyas by a final score of 12-6 at George Mason Stadium.

Georgetown jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and scored six of the game's first seven goals. The Hoyas entered the break with a 6-2 lead. In the second period, Georgetown scored five of the first six goals to open up an 11-3 lead before George Mason scored three of the game's final four goals.

Freshman midfielder Kelly Davis, a two-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree, accounted for nearly all of Mason's offense, scoring five of the Patriots' six goals in the game. This marks the second consecutive game and the third time this season that Davis has scored five goals. The only other Patriot to find the back of the net in the game was freshman attacker Megan Udovich, who scored Mason's first goal of the game off a free-position shot with 15:50 left in the first period.

Two players accounted for 10 of the Hoyas' 12 goals. Both Brittany Baschuk and Coco Stanwick scored five goals in the game. Stanwick also grabbed seven of Georgetown's 12 draw controls.

Freshman goalkeeper Sara Longobucco was under constant pressure all night from the Hoyas' attack, which took 41 shots in the game. Longobucco came up with 17 saves, topping her previous career high of 12, which she reached twice this season. The Sea Cliff, N.Y. native also had four ground balls and two caused turnovers in the contest.

Tonight's game against the Hoyas was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 7, but was rescheduled due to unplayable field conditions at George Mason Stadium due to excess snowfall in the area.

After playing their last three games in front of their home crowd, the Patriots hit the road for their next game, traveling to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on St. Joseph's at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 25.

Fairfax, Va. - Brittany Baschuk (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge) scored a career-high five goals and senior Coco Stanwick (Baltimore, Md./Note Dame Prep) also tallied five goals and matched a season-high with seven draw controls as the No. 9 Georgetown University women's soccer team posted a 12-6 win at George Mason Stadium on Wednesday. Georgetown improves to 4-2 on the season. The Hoyas have now won all nine meetings over the Patriots. Georgetown outshot the Patriots 21-12 in the first half and took a 6-2 lead at halftime.

Bashuk scored unassisted for the game's first goal 24:14. Just over two minutes later, Stanwick got in the scoring column at 21:32 after Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scooped up a ground ball in the middle of the field. Kaestner found a streaking Stanwick who raced upfield for her second marker of the contest. Stanwick made it 3-0 in favor of the Hoyas at 18:08 on a pretty spin move near the left side of the cage.

Mason (3-3) freshman Megan Udovich scored on free position at 15:50 to cut the Hoya lead to 3-1 but Georgetown then scored three straight goals for a 6-1 advantage. Baschuk scored her second goal of the game at 14:34 on an assist from Zan Morley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside). Morley slipped the assist through traffic across the eight-meter area to put the Hoyas ahead 4-1.
