No. 10 Princeton Pulls Away From Loyola to Win, 14-5

PRINCETON--Mary Minshall and Katie Lewis-Lamonica each scored three goals as Princeton pulled away from Loyola in the second half on the way to a 14-5 victory over the Greyhounds in a women's lacrosse game played at Princeton Stadium Wednesday night.

The Tigers (3-2), who ended a two-game losing streak, outshot Loyola (1-5) 36-12, including 22-4 in the decisive second half. Lewis-Lamonica, Ashley Amo and Minshall each scored goals in a three-minute span early in the half to give Princeton an 11-4 lead.

"I thought this was a nice team win for us," said Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "It was a good all-around performance that gives us some confidence heading into a real tough game on Saturday (at No. 3 Virginia)."

Princeton, which defeated Loyola for the fifth straight time, got two goals from Minshall in a 1:30 span early in the first half to erase an early deficit. The Tigers then took the lead for good with a three-goal run after that, getting goals from Lewis-Lamonica, Amo and Christine Casaceli in a 2:32 span to take a 5-2 lead.

Loyola got within 6-4 on Kate Filippelli's third goal of the first half with 6:39 on the clock, but Alison Murray and Courtney Bird scored in the final four minutes of the first half for Princeton to give the Tigers an 8-4 lead.

"It feels good to get involved as much as I did tonight," said Minshall, whose three goals were a career high. "We did a great job of getting possession off the draws and took advantage of our chances to score."

Princeton won 16 of the game's 21 draw controls, including all eight in the decisive second half. Both Katie Cox and Holly McGarvie had four draw controls apiece for the Tigers, who scored 14 or more goals for the third time in five games this season.

Colleen O'Keefe added two goals for the Greyhounds, who also got 11 saves from freshman goalie Karen Nicolaus. O'Keefe scored Loyola's only second-half goal, with 19:40 left, before Princeton scored the final three goals of the game after that.

Nine players scored a goal for Princeton in the game. Five players had at least one assist.
