Hawks Take Down Skidmore, 10-7

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick College men's lacrosse team remained undefeated at home, beating non-conference opponent Skidmore College 10-7 at Wright Stadium on Wednesday night. Seniors Pat McCormack (Camillus, N.Y.) and Brian Miller (Acton, Mass.) each scored three goals apiece for the Hawks, who are now 2-2 on the season. The Thoroughbreds stand at 0-4.

Skidmore took the lead out of the gate, building a 4-2 lead after the first period, courtesy of a pair of goals from Rob Lutin. Hartwick responded with six unanswered goals spanning the second and third periods to claim an 8-4 lead and would hold on for the final of 10-7.

McCormack added two assists to accompany his three-goal outing and the Hawks also got scores from Steve Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.), Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, N.J.), Lee Austin (Duxbury, Mass.), and Alex Giovinazzo (Waltham, Mass.). Caramello had a game-high three assists.

Nick Coppola had two goals for Skidmore, while Chuck McNeil, Joe Tynan, and Cory Barkoff each added goals.

Jason Fautas (Holtsville, N.Y.) and John Meade (Ocean Beach, N.Y.) split time in goal for Hartwick. Fautas made six saves, allowing four goals in two periods, while Meade stopped nine shots, allowing three goals over the final 30 minutes.

John Capitani spent the majority of the game in net for Skidmore, allowing nine goals and making four saves over 40 minutes. Flip Bongaerts played the other 20 minutes for the Thoroughbreds, allowing one goal and stopping four shots.

The Hawks will open their conference season on Saturday when they host the Saxons of Alfred University at 1:00 p.m. at Wright Stadium.
