No. 14 Hamilton Defeats Nazareth, 8-6
CLINTON, N.Y. -- Kaillie Briscoe '09 scored three goals to help lead nationally ranked No. 14 Hamilton College to an 8-6 non-league win against visiting Nazareth College at Campus Road Athletic Field on March 22.
Briscoe, who scored 54 goals last year as a rookie, has five this year. Two of her goals in this game came on free-position shots. Hamilton (2-2 overall) was 5-for-7 on free-position opportunities.
Liz Longley '07 added two goals and Inga Stots '07 chipped in one goal and one assist for the Continentals. Kalley Greer '07 made six of her eight saves in the second half. Kate Marek '09 won four draw controls. Tara Eckberg '08 led the defense with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Beth Quartier '07 scored Nazareth's first four goals on four shots. Quartier also won three draw controls and caused two turnovers. Both Tia Morgia '07 and Jennifer Young '10 recorded one goal and two assists.
The Golden Flyers (2-1) led 3-2 midway through the first half, but Hamilton took the lead for good with three straight goals -- all on free-position shots. Jen McGowan '08 tied the score at 3-all with 7:12 left in the first. Briscoe put the Continentals in front to stay with 23 seconds remaining before the break. Briscoe scored again 4:28 into the second half for a 5-3 Hamilton lead.
Nazareth closed to within one goal twice in the second half. However, the Continentals' Liz Rave '10 took the ball the length of the field and scored her first collegiate goal with 12:55 left for a 7-5 advantage. Longley made it a three-goal cushion on a free-position shot with 6:19 remaining. Longley leads Hamilton with eight goals.
The Continentals host SUNY Cortland on Wednesday, March 28, for another non-league game at 4:30 p.m. The Golden Flyers are at home against Rensselaer on Saturday, March 31, at noon.
