Top-Ranked Gettysburg Cruises Past Swarthmore, 18-4
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Gettysburg sophomore Megan Moore and senior Alexandra Ewing scored four goals and handed out two assists apiece as the No. 1-ranked Bullets downed hometown Swarthmore 18-4 in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Clothier Field.
Katie Hagan added two goals and three assists for Gettysburg while Jen Betts and Cristi Farrell chipped in two scores each. Swarthmore (3-2 overall, 0-1 CC) was led by sophomore midfielder Marissa Schaffer with two goals while senior Catherine Crawford and freshman Hannah Jaicks each tallied a score.
The Bullets (5-0 overall, 2-0 CC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Farrell scored once and Moore put home her first two scores in the opening five minutes. The Garnet got on the board when Crawford carried the ball into the offensive zone and knifed through two Gettysburg defenders. The midfielder beat Bullets' starting goalie Kristen Krammer for her seventh goal of the season at 20:15. Gettysburg gained control of the game by scoring the next 11 goals to hold a 13-1 lead at the intermission.
Swarthmore churned up some momentum in the second half, fueled by two goals in four minutes by Schaffer. The sophomore converted a free-position opportunity at 23:10, and then took a pass from freshman Alex Gilbert-Bono before beating Gettysburg netminder Susan Meyers at 19:20. Jaicks notched her third goal of the season with 1:24 left after getting a feed from Crawford (her fifth helper of the year).
Starting Swarthmore goalie Susannah Blair made four saves in nearly 54 minutes of action while Krammer and Meyers made one stop apiece after splitting the goalie duties.
The Garnet travel to Massachusetts this weekend to defend their 2006 Seven Sisters title. Wellesley College is the site of the 2007 Seven Sisters Women's Lacrosse Tournament and Swarthmore, the top seed, will face off against Cedar Crest on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

The point total is a career high for Ewing, while the points and goals are personal bests for Moore, who also matched her career high with the two helpers.
The Bullets (5-0, 2-0 CC), who took over the nation's top ranking in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, jumped out to a 13-1 halftime lead and coasted home with five more goals in the second half. Five players scored at least three points each, including senior captain Katie Hagan (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) who had two goals and three assists for five points.
The Garnet (3-2, 0-1 CC) got a team-high two goals from sophomore attacker Marissa Schaffer. Senior midfielder Catherine Crawford tacked on a goal and an assist for two points.
It took Gettysburg just 4:26 to amass a 3-0 lead. Junior midfielder Cristi Farrell (Broomall, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) scored just 2:23 in on an assist from junior attacker Krissy Browning (Baldwin, Md./Fallston). Farrell scored twice in the game, and Browning had a goal and two assists for three points. Just 40 seconds later, Moore scored her first goal of the game on a free-position shot. She converted again 27 seconds later on an assist from Hagan.
Swarthmore got on the board at the 20:15 mark with Crawford's unassisted tally, but Gettysburg exploded for the game's next 12 goals in a span of 22:30. Moore completed the hat trick at the 17:04 mark, and she then assisted a pair of Ewing goals 34 seconds apart, including the game winner. It was Ewing's first deciding tally of the season. Senior attacker Jen Betts (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) scored with 13:36 showing on the clock to give the Bullets a 7-1 lead and a total of four goals in 3:28. The visitors would later tack on four more goals in a 3:34 stretch.
