Hutchins Sets Scoring Mark in Guilford Win Over Wooster

Greensboro, N.C. -- Junior Mary Hutchins (West Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon) scored a school-record 11 points in Guilford's 20-12 nonconference lacrosse win over the College of Wooster Thursday in the Armfield Athletic Center. The attacker hit for a career-best seven goals and dished out four assists, breaking the former standard of 10 points shared by Moira Foley '07 and Jen Harrison '91.

Junior Caryn Washington (Baltimore, Md./Park School) opened the scoring with the first of her career-high six goals less than a minute into the contest off of a Carrie Ernst (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) assist. Washington struck again 15 seconds later off of a Hutchins feed. Wooster (1-2) bounced back with two goals of its own in the next two minutes.

Guilford and Wooster traded tallies over the next 22 minutes before a three-goal run by the Quakers (2-5) opened a 9-5 advantage. The Fighting Scots' Allison Rubin (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) scored at the halftime horn to make it a 9-6 game.

Wooster's Jessica Baylor (Milton, Mass./Noble and Greenough) opened the second-half scoring to cut Guilford's lead to two, but the Quakers reeled off four straight goals, two by Allison Brown (Salisbury, Md./Salisbury) in 49 seconds, to take a commanding 13-7 lead with 23 minutes left in the game. Wooster drew no closer than four for the rest of the game.

Six different Quakers dent the twine in the win. Brown finished with four points on three goals and one assist. Freshman Ellie Merritt (Gaithersburg, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) scored once and senior Caryn Stone (N. Potomac, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wootton) added two assists. Junior Jordan Clodfelter (Adamant, Vt./Union-32) scored a goal and had her two assists. Ernst contributed two goals, two assists and a game-high five draw controls for the Quakers. Freshman Jessica Bolton (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) went the distance in the goal and recorded a career-high 12 saves, plus four ground balls.

Eight different players recorded goals for the Fighting Scots, who were led by Hillary Darragh's (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) one goal and three assists. Sophomore Taryn Higgins (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) netted a team-best three goals. Senior Annie Steward (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Academy) and sophomore Carly Carey (Cummington, Mass./Academy and Charlemont) added two goals apiece. Wooster goalie Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) recorded five saves between the pipes.

The Quakers return to action Saturday (3/24) against visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Bridgewater in a 3:00 p.m. game. Wooster returns home for a three-game home stand starting with a March 28 tilt against Notre Dame (OH) at 4:30 p.m.
