Wilmington Routed by Philadelphia, 22-4
NEW CASTLE, DE -- The Lady Wildcats of Wilmington College were routed by the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University, 22-4 in women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at the Kirkwood Complex.
Philadelphia opened the game scoring nine straight goals, and never looked back as they cruised to the victory in their first game of the season.
Wilmington received single goals from Katelyn Gibas, Colby Bugda, Kelsey LaPlume, and Melissa Samio. Kelly Wojciechowski, Amy Waggoner and Gibas each added assists for the Wildcats.
The Rams were led by Brooke Woodland who netted four goals and an assists, while Allison Kressler and Maggie Bornhorst each tallied three goals and three assists. Marissa Wisnewski notched two goals and two assists, while Shannon Shippey had a hat trick and an assist.
Amber Smith recorded 22 saves in goal for the Wildcats, while Philadelphia split time in net between Kelly Staerk and Elizabeth Hulfish. Staerk picked up the win, notching two saves in goal, and Hulfish closed out the game in the second half making four saves.
Following the game, the Wildcats dropped to 2-2 on the season while Philadelphia improved to 1-0 on the year. Wilmington returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Lions of Molloy College at 12:00 PM.
